If you’ve ever watched an 18-month-old try to kick a ball, you know it’s a beautifully wobbly, unpredictable adventure. At this stage, your child is experiencing rapid gross motor growth, while also navigating emotional co-regulation and parallel play.
So, why enroll them in a sports class if they aren’t ready to play an actual game of soccer or basketball?
Because at KEVA Sports Center, early sports classes are not about the score—they’re about developmental magic.
Fitting the Sport to the Child (Not the Other Way Around)
Forcing a toddler into rigid athletic structures or competitive drills is developmentally inappropriate. Under the age of 5, young children lack the attention span and complex coordination required for structured team play.
That is why our Lil’ Kickers soccer and Multi-Sport curriculum is designed by child development experts to leverage what your child does best: imaginative play.
Rather than running repetitive drills, our incredibly energetic coaches use storytelling and creative props to teach physical skills:
- The Bunnies Class (Ages 18–24 Months): A parent-child movement class where we work on sensory-motor play, balance, and wobbly running. Parents participate directly, offering a secure base for active bonding.
- The Thumpers Class (Ages 24–30 Months): Toddlers begin early social interactions and parallel play. We focus on kicking, tossing, and building spatial awareness through games that feel like interactive stories.
- The Cottontails Class (Ages 30–36 Months): A transitional bridge class where children start working independently with coaches while parents cheer comfortably from the sidelines.
- Multi-Sport Tots (Ages 18–36 Months): A parent-child movement class where little ones get their first exposure to different sports through sensory-motor play, balance games, and wobbly running. Parents participate directly, offering a secure base for active bonding while exploring new equipment together.
Developmental Milestones on the Field
When your toddler participates in a Lil’ Kickers class at KEVA, they are hitting crucial milestones such as learning to track objects, jump forward, shift weight, and navigate peer dynamics.
Best of all? Our indoor, climate-controlled fields provide a safe, sanitized, and perfectly padded environment to tumble, try again, and succeed.
